The Indian Premier League is one of the most successful tournaments in the sports history. We all know that the virus outbreak has made life difficult and has affected every aspect of it. It also affects the IPL as an entire season of IPL amidst this chaos is difficult to put together.  Let us take a look at some of the changes in the way IPL might be played.

CHANGED VENUES:

IPL has been forced out of India and all the matches will be played in the UAE. This is not the first time IPL is being hosted in the UAE but this is the first time an entire season will be played there.  This change in venue is just a small development. 3 Bio secure venues have been established in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Players will miss the home ground advantage as they might not get to interact with the pitch curators. This is tough especially since the pitch conditions in the gulf are different.

SOCIAL DISTANCING:

The training sessions have the 2m distancing rule and only a minimum number of players are allowed at nets at a time. The teams should refrain from socializing too much, keeping in mind the distancing rules at all times. All the teams are placed at different hotels. There are limits even on the minimum temperature and humidity settings for the air conditioners.  There might not be crowd in the stands and this is a big thing to process. The high fives and hugs will surely be missed.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOP):

Captains are to electronically exchange sheets at the toss. The No handshakes rule and strict social distancing rules even in the dressing rooms takes away some of the fun. As per the SOP, players that have fever should self-isolate at the first sign of any symptom. No after-match packed press conferences where our witty players interact with the journalists. All these conferences are to be done keeping the social distancing rules in mind. No sharing of equipment among the staff. The players are to play with their own bats. We are going to miss seeing the player family moments. We may not get to see the adorable Shahrukh Khan-Priety Zinta interaction or any interaction between the franchise owners.

53 DAY-LONG IPL:

The climatic conditions of the UAE make it difficult to conduct afternoon matches and owing to this, the IPL will be a 53 day-long affair. Also, conducting so many matches when there are only 3 venues is a tough task.

Amidst so many hurdles, IPL is still the most anticipated event that has garnered the attention of many sports fans around the globe. The answer to the question if the event is going to be without any hap hazards lies only in the future.
